What does it involve?
There are 2 main types of sedation dentistry to choose from:
1. Twilight sedation – This form of sedation involves a fully qualified specialist anaesthetist who, using IV medication, sends you into a deep, relaxing sleep in the dental chair. This is a fantastic, safe option for longer procedures, those requiring more extensive treatment, and extremely anxious patients. Usually, all dental treatment necessary can be completed in just one session whilst you are sound asleep.
2. Oral conscious sedation – This form of sedation involves a combination of anti-anxiety and pain relieving medications that are administered in the form of a “drink”, one hour prior to your dental procedure. This option is great for those who are comfortable being awake during treatment, are moderately anxious, or are requiring less extensive dental work.
Both forms of sedation are completely safe and fully monitored to ensure a comfortable, pleasant experience for all our patients. Twilight sedation services even attract a partial Medicare rebate, meaning less out of pocket expense**
If you feel you would benefit from this type of service, the first step is to book in for a dental examination, where one of our gentle dentists can recommend the best method of sedation to suit your individual situation.
**(Medicare rebate subject to the Anaesthetist used and the length of time booked).
